More National Guard troops are set to be sent into the riot-hit US town of Ferguson following a grand jury decision to let a white cop walk free after he murdered a black teen.
“The violence we saw in areas of Ferguson last night is unacceptable,” Nixon said. “I am deeply saddened for the people of Ferguson who woke up to see parts of their community in ruins. No one should have to live like this, no one deserves this. We must do better and we will."
According to reports, the first day of protests in Ferguson left at least 12 buildings burned while more than 80 protesters were arrested there.
During a press briefing on Monday night, President Barack Obama urged protesters to be calm and said these protests are “an understandable reaction.” He also acknowledged that the US is suffering from racial discrimination.
